Turkish officials will take interest in activity and experience of Lithuanian border guards

Turkish county authorities and officials of the Border Management Department Headquarters (MOI) will be familiarised with experience of Lithuanian border guards in integrated border management, SBGS activity and infrastructure.

On Monday 17 Turkish county authorities and officials of the Border Management Department Headquarters under MOI will start a study visit which will last for five days. The aim of the visit – to get familiar and adopt practice of the Lithuanian State Border Guard Service by improving integrated border management system innovation in Turkey.  It also will be aimed to get familiar with practical Lithuanian border guard modalities, infrastructure, cooperation experience, various solutions of the border incidents at local level.

On Monday Turkish officials will attend central institution of SBGS in Vilnius, where they will be introduced with SBGS structure, functions, interagency and international cooperation. Lithuanian Customs will make similar presentation there. On the same day delegates will visit Padvarionys Frontier Station which secures border with Belarus, border guards will demonstrate capacity of the border surveillance system installed  in this border section and will tell about their activity.

On Tuesday and Wednesday Turkish officials will be introduced with activity of the Coast Guard District of SBGS. They will visit Uostas and Neringa Frontier Stations at Kopgalis sea surveillance centre. Additionally, border guards will demonstrate and tell about surveillance system of the territorial sea and the Curonian Lagoon and use of patrol vessels.

On Thursday Turkish delegation will be familiarized with activity of Kena Frontier Station at the border with Belarus, where they will learn about functionality of Facilitated Kaliningrad Transit Scheme, duties of border guards while carrying out checks on transit  trains and for that purpose used infrastructure and equipment. On the same day guests will be introduced with performed control procedures at Medininkai border control point.

Before the departure Turkish county authorities and officials of the Border Management Department Headquarters will be introduced with activity of border guards at Vilnius airport, their performed check procedures and experience.

County authorities are in charge of coordination of the state border guard actions and interagency coordination at border section  in Turkey.

This visit will be held according to the project “Technical Assistance for Improving Administrative Capacity of Border Management at Local Level”, funded by International Centre for Migration Policy Development.
